Parnassus Mentioned in the New York Times / Chicago Tribune News

I want to share this article by Jeffrey Simpson dated August 31, 1996 titled, “When You Inherit the Family Farm, You Own the Memories, Too.” The byline identifies it as a New York Times story; however, I found it on the website for the Chicago Tribune News. This article is about the writer’s family history in Western Pennsylvania, specifically in Parnassus. Parnassus is the neighborhood in New Kensington where I, Jonathan, and a few of our family members now live.

Jonathan’s mother grew up in New Kensington, and she recalled to me the various parades from her childhood that went right past the 1890’s Victorian house that Jonathan and I now own. As mentioned in previous entries, Jonathan and I have both spent time researching this neighborhood, and we even found the graves of the original family that owned our house.

I found the linked article by Googling “Parnassus PA stories.” Jonathan and I enjoy learning about Parnassus’ past and we hope that others do as well.
