House and Home

I think that we’re finally approaching the completed stage

Today marked the first (and last) coat of paint for the ceiling, in a color identified as “Belgian Waffle.”  We also got the first coat on the walls of the darker gold (the fancy name of which I can’t remember right now).  The walls will need another coat to be even, but we’re happy with the colors.

Today reminded me how tedious cut-in can be, but also the thrill of the challenge of cutting-in freehand.  When we did the dining room, I didn’t trust myself much, so I taped-off the ceiling when we were finished with that, then cut-in the walls (or maybe it was the other way around–I can’t remember, but I do remember that I taped-off for the cut-in).  It worked, though I had to patch a few places where I lifted the paint with the tape.  It was also a mess to do.  This time around, I bought myself a nice angled brush specifically for cut-in.  Today, I learned how tedious this can be, but it was fun to try to do it without hitting the ceiling.  I managed to nick only a few minor spots, and most of those I cleaned-up right away with a damp paper towel, so that was cool.

I have to be home from work again tomorrow for a few things, so I’ll be getting the second coat on tomorrow as well.  Quality brushes and rollers are well worth the money.  Now, if only we had the painter’s pole that we had purchased specifically for this room, we would have been all set.  🙂

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.

The paint looks terrific! Love the gold color – kinda like a butternut squash if my monitor is to be believed. I’ll bet you feel really satisfied. And a little tired, maybe?

Quite tired, yes. 🙂 Today I got the second coat on the walls, and took the tape off of the wood. There are a few touch-up spots I need to get, but it looks good otherwise. I have to work tomorrow, so progress is going to slow down again a bit, but I expect to get the carpet up tomorrow. I’m excited.

Thanks little sister! Tomorrow might be the day that we pull the plastic down, if all goes well.
